The world of academia just gets more bizarre with every passing day.  It’s not enough that college campuses have been the bastions of socialist and communist indoctrination for a century.  Now, the disease of political correctness has bored its way down to the marrow.

City University of New York has officially barred professors and instructors from using gender specific salutations.  Simply put, the days of referring to someone as Mr., Miss or Mrs. are now over.  Yes, that’s right, the respectful greeting of someone with a gender descriptive title are banned on this Big Apple campus.

Why?  The excuse is that they are adhering to Title IX guidelines, which of course is BS 101.  According to Fox News:

While the directive specifically targets written interactions with students and prospective students, Tanya Domi, a spokesperson for the school told the newspaper that the policy should be “interpreted as broadly as possible.

Domi added that the policy aims to work “within a regulatory framework to comply with Title IX legal principles.”

So just what is Title IX?  Wikipedia describes it as follows:

Title IX is a portion of the United States Education Amendments of 1972, Public Law No. 92‑318, 86 Stat. 235 (June 23, 1972), codified at 20 U.S.C. §§ 1681-1688, co-authored and introduced by Senator Birch Bayh; it was renamed the Patsy Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act in 2002, after its House co-author and sponsor. It states (in part) that:

No person in the United States shall, on the basis of gender, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.

So just how does addressing someone as Miss or Mr. or Mrs. discriminate?  It doesn’t.  The very idea that is does is just stupid.  Though the article does not go down this path, I will: this is rooted in ever-growing gender neutrality movement, an offshoot of the LGBT movement.    The idea is that gender specific roles, titles and traditional male-female roles and relationships no longer have a place in ‘modern society’.  We should all be the same.  No male, no female, we just…are.

Most of us were raised to show a certain respect for our elders.  Your teachers were always to be called Mr. or Mrs. or Miss whoever.  Would you have ever even considered calling your teacher by his or her first name?  Never!  But we’ve dumb down our society on so many levels that now we actually find offense in respect.

A school district in Nebraska made a similar move last fall, instructing teachers to no longer use terms like ‘boy’s and girls’, ‘ladies and gentlemen’ or ‘you guys’.    The Lincoln Public School District actually circulated materials to teachers telling them that they should refer to students as ‘purple penguins’.  According to an article in the Daily Mail, the handouts directed teachers to ‘say things like “calling all readers," or “hey campers" or "could all of the athletes come here." Create classroom names and then ask all of the “purple penguins" to meet at the rug,’ Beyond stupid.

All of this is, I believe, designed to break down the family and religious structures that have defined society, not just in America but the world over, for centuries.  And the so-called LGBT movement has, at last, the weight and strength of politics in their corner.  They demand that we stamp out hatred, and then they themselves express a white-hot hatred for anything that resembles traditional values, roles or morality.

Thank you, CUNY, for reminding us that we have long ago ventured a bridge too far.  Now, what are we going to do about it?
