We're all familiar with Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving and the official start of the Christmas shopping season. But what about Small Business Saturday? It's the day after Black Friday and the perfect day to check a few more names off your shopping list while supporting the small businesses that are the heart and soul of commerce in every community.

One of the best places to explore the unique and sometimes quirky small businesses in Wichita Falls is downtown. Yes, downtown. There are plenty of little shops to explore and some pretty handy coffee shops and restaurants to keep your energy levels up on those busy and extended shopping excursions.

Another reason to explore the downtown Wichita Falls area this Saturday is something called Retro Riot. Retro Riot is the combined effort of the Lamar Street Gang, a group of four resale shops, three in the 1500 block of Lamar and one more in the 1100 block. Participants include Fashion Garage at 1115 Lamar along with Alley Cat Vintage Mercantile, Heritage Antiques and Down The Rabbit Hole, all in the 1500 block.

While you'll find the usual mass produced gift items in many shops around town, you'll find the unusual, unexpected, and sometimes unexplainable gift items in resale shops like these. From vintage record albums and antique dolls, to Tiffany and Company candlesticks, you never know what treasure you'll find in the next booth.

Retro Riot takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. this Saturday (11.30.19) and there will be special store sales, free refreshments, even some giveaways.
