Crazy History of The Alamodome in Texas
Nowadays The Alamodome is the home for the UTSA Roadrunners football team. As mentioned above the capacity is 30,000, which is correct for the high school basketball championship game. They will tarp off the upper portion of the venue. For a football game, The Alamodome can hold 64,000 fans. For a concert, 77,000 fans. This is a massive venue in San Antonio.
Remember When the Texas Rangers Played in the Alamodome?
A fun thing the Texas Rangers used to do was finish off their spring training games at The Alamodome. This only existed from 2013-2017 and for good reason. Look at those field dimensions. Left field 370 feet from home plate, center field 395 feet, good news right field is only 272 feet. It's one of the weirdest baseball fields you will ever see.
Saints Called The Alamodome Home After Hurricane Katrina
Several semi-pro teams have called The Alamodome home and it was also the host site for a few NFL preseason games from 1993-2001. However in 2005, the city of San Antonio technically had a NFL team. The New Orleans Saints, unable to play in the Superdome due to Hurricane Katrina played three of their 'home games' at The Alamodome. Another one was played in New York...for some reason, and the four remaining home games were played at Louisiana State University. San Antonio averaged 62,665 fans per game, which lead to many thinking a NFL expansion could be possible. All these years later, it still has not happened.
