The Midwestern State women's basketball team used an early 13-0 run against the Texas A&M University-Kingsville Javelinas to take the lead and never look back in an 81-59 drubbing at Ligon Coliseum.

A nice crowd of 1289 saw the Mustangs get out to a slow start, scoring just 10 points through the first 9 minutes of the game. A much needed 13-0 run by MSU got things moving in the right direction for the Mustangs. Four first half 3-pointers from Lisa Hampton contributed to the 42-33 halftime lead for MSU.

The Mustangs turned the heat up even higher in the second half, shooting a blistering 58.3% from the field in the second frame. Andrea Carter paced MSU's hot shooting, going 7-for-7 from the field, finishing with a game high 21 points.

Carter also notched her second straight 20 point scoring effort, scoring twenty the last time out versus Angelo State. Lisa Hampton and Shatoia Gober also hit double digits for MSU, scoring 12 points each.

The Mustangs improve to 12-7 overall and 4-4 in LSC play. MSU plays again next Saturday, February 1, against Cameron University. Live stats of that game can be followed at www.msumustangs.com.
