Darwin is rolling over in his grave.

A man in Center Line, Mich., noticed a spider on his gas tank while he was filling it up, so he thought it would be a brilliant idea to kill it by setting it on fire with a lighter he had. You see where this is going, right?

The man, who is deathly afraid of the creatures, quickly created a fire that destroyed the pump. He grabbed a nearby fire extinguisher and put out the inferno. Somehow, no one was injured.

An attendant at the station managed to automatically stop the pump before any further damage could be done. She said the man knew he was in the wrong. "He was sorry, he said he didn't know. It is just one of those things that happen -- stupidity," she said.

When it comes to being a dunce because of the presence of a spider around a car, perhaps he can take some solace with this woman, whose license was somehow not revoked.

The man wasn't too embarrassed by his gaffe -- he returned the next day as a customer.
