Looking Back at When Dolly Parton Performed in Wichita Falls

Earlier this week, the world lost the legendary Dolly Parton. For those in Wichita Falls old enough to remember, she actually played here back in the 1950's.

Over the past few days, people have been sharing their favorite Dolly Parton memories. Whether that's listening to her music, watching her movies, and I saw many are reading books to their kids that they got from Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. For me, my Dolly Parton memory is of theme park in Tennessee. I went when I was 13 and the Dolly Parton lollipop is burned into my memory.

^I remember Dollywood or somewhere around the theme park selling these. As a 13-year-old, a Dolly Parton shaped candy sounded like the greatest thing ever. I became like the dad in A Christmas Story upon seeing the leg lamp. I had to have one. My mom at the time, was not too big of a fan of the candy. Thanks to my dad for the hookup on that one.

Dolly Parton Performed at Memorial Auditorium in Wichita Falls

Here's something else I learned this week. Dolly Parton performed in Wichita Falls back in 1972. Tickets were between $3.50 and $4.50. I think just a 'convenience' fee alone from Ticketmaster nowadays is more expensive than that. Also according to Concert Archive, Dolly Parton also played at Memorial Auditorium in 1977.
