March 1, 2016 Primary Elections Results
Texas Senator Ted Cruz won the Republican Primary for the Republican Party nomination for President with nearly 3,000 votes separating him from national front runner Donald Trump.
The Democratic Primary for the Presidential nomination was a much tighter race in Wichita County with just over 400 votes separating winner Hillary Clinton from Bernie Sanders.
In Wichita County, Republican incumbent Pct. 1 Commissioner Ray Gonzalez lost his re-election bid to Republican Mark Beauchamp in a tight race. Beauchamp will face Democratic challenger Larry Donahue in the November general election.
In Clay County, incumbent Sheriff Kenny Lemons narrowly wins his re-election bid with 1,567 votes to challenger Jeff Lyde's 1,324
In Archer County, it was a crowded field of candidates for the Justice of the Peace, Pct. 2 race. The all Republican field was led by Corky Scarbrough and Gerri Ayers, with 393 to 363 votes respectively. Johnny Morris, Benny Schlegel, Kenny Lyons and Ken Wheeler split the remainder of the 1,128 ballots. There will be a run-off election in May between Scarbrough and Ayers.
