Deputy Injured After Pushed From Bridge
EDNA, Texas (AP) — A Jackson County sheriff's deputy is recovering at a San Antonio hospital after he broke his leg, ribs and a vertebrae in his back when he was pushed off a highway bridge and fell about 18 feet.
Authorities say Bryan Martin had pulled over a suspected drunken driver Saturday on a farm-to-market road near Lolita, about 25 miles east of Victoria.
Sheriff Andy Louderback tells The Victoria Advocate an arrest warrant later was issued for 33-year-old Adam Twardowski, of Edna.
He's held at the Jackson County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury on public servant.
Court records show he's already on parole for several convictions for driving while intoxicated.
Authorities say Martin, a deputy for about two years, faces additional surgery.
