Harris County Convicted Murderer Escapes Prison

AMARILLO, Texas (AP) — A convicted killer from Harris County has escaped from a prison in Amarillo.
Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman Jason Clark says a corrections officer at the Neal Unit spotted 34-year-old Marvin Garcia and fired several shots at him but Garcia climbed a fence and fled.
It's not certain if Garcia was hit. The escape took place about 3:40 a.m. Monday.
Garcia in June 2010 began serving a 25-year sentence for murder.
The Neal Unit in Amarillo can hold about 1,300 prisoners.
According to News Channel 10, Amarillo:
Garcia is a hispanic male, 34 years old, 5' 7", 140 lbs., with brown hair and brown eyes. He has a tear drop tattoo under his left eye and a tattoo of a beaded rope with cross on his chest. His appearance has changed since the released photo was taken. He is thinner, with hair around one inch long and could be wearing glasses. Police say he has a cut across his chest and forearm.
