On Friday, at a rally in Alabama, President Trump said players who disrespect the flag and refuse to stand for the anthem should be fired.

"Wouldn't you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a b**** off the field right now - he's fired!'"

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell followed up with this statement on Twitter:

Of course, Mr. Goodells statement is meant to deflect from the criticism of his players who choose to disrespect the flag and Anthem and it demonstrates that Mr. Goodell just does not get it. At least not yet. You, the consumer, have the power to change Mr. Goodells heart and mind, rest assured.

Frankly, I don't disagree with the President on this. Do any of us have a right to not stand for the National Anthem? Constitutionally, yes, any of us has that right. But there is a time and a place for such, and in front of 100,000 people in a stadium and millions of television and streaming media viewers is not the place. Many of those watching the game are combat veterans.

Many are the children, grandchildren, widows or even widowers of men and women who have paid the ultimate price for their love of this country. We don't need these deliberate demonstrations from NFL players. We really do not care about your political opinions. If people want politics, they watch Rachel Maddow or Sean Hannity. They can listen to me or Rush or Mark Levine.

We watch football as an escape from the day to day politics / economy / tribulations of life. Same thing goes for Hollywood for that matter. I don't appreciate the disrespect of with these public displays. My family has fought in every major conflict since the American Revolution. We take it very personally. I can go on and on, but I think I'll let Rep. Clay Higgins of Louisiana close this out today.

(Side note to Rep Higgins: One of these days when I'm in your state, I'm gonna track you down and buy your lunch. Can't wait to have a one on one conversation with you. Stay strong up there in the 'swap'-and I'm not talking about the Atchafalaya, either)
