Accident Near Harrold Claims Child’s Life, Vernon Man Arrested
A two car accident near Harrold has claimed the life of an 8-year-old child.
The crash occurred at around 3:30 am Saturday morning just north of the Harrold Truck Stop on U.S. 287. 32-year-old Christine Nicole Griffin of Mississippi was northbound on U.S 287 with her three children and a friend. Griffin’s 2013 Nissan Pathfinder was struck from behind by a 2005 Dodge truck driven by 20 year-old Anthony Isiah Gomez of Vernon.
Griffin, her adult passenger, her 12-year-old son and 3-year-old son were transported to Electra Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Griffin’s 8-year-old daughter was transported to United Regional with life-threatening injuries and was later transported to a Dallas-area hospital. She died shortly after 7 pm Saturday night.
Gomez was arrested and has been charged with intoxication assault with a vehicle. Bond had not yet been set as of Sunday. The DPS investigation is ongoing.
