Train Collides with SUV in Northwest Wichita Falls
Wichita Falls Police, fire and EMT’s responded to the scene of train/car collision yesterday evening. Just after 6 pm Friday, a silver SUV was headed southbound on North Beverly Drive when the driver drove through the guardrails at on the railroad tracks at the intersection of North Beverly and Old Iowa Park Road. The car was struck in the right rear of the vehicle by an eastbound Burlington Northern/Santa Fe railway train.
According to officers on the scene, the train was traveling approximately 40 mph at the time of the crash. It took about 1 mile for the train to come to a complete stop after it struck the vehicle. The driver was the lone occupant and was transported by ambulance to United Regional with unspecified injuries. Officers say the driver was awake and responsive when he was transported. No other injuries were reported. The identity of the driver was not immediately available.
